So an honest alternatives page starts by saying that if governance knowledge is what your board leans on, The Key's bank and training are genuinely hard to beat. The reason trusts still search for an alternative is usually different: they want the board machinery (packs, approvals, registers), connected to the things boards are actually accountable for, starting with the estate, and they'd rather their board papers lived in their own tenant than anyone's platform.

Where GovernorHub is genuinely stronger
The knowledge layer, without question. The Key's governance knowledge bank, the AI assistant answering from it, and on-demand governor training are capabilities EstateProof doesn't offer and doesn't plan to: we do estates, not guidance. GovernorHub is also close to a sector standard: clerks know it, local authorities resell it, and that familiarity has real value. Some trusts run GovernanceProof for the board machinery and keep a Key knowledge subscription alongside: a combination we're happy to recommend.
Estates just became board business
The Academy Trust Handbook's estates guidance asks boards to oversee condition, compliance and safety across the estate, and from autumn 2026 responsible bodies complete annual returns against the DfE's School Estate Management Standards. A governance platform that can't see the estate leaves the board reading typed summaries of a system it has no window into.

For the board machinery (meeting packs, approvals, declarations, policies, registers), yes: GovernanceProof covers that ground, adds e-signed approvals and live estate assurance, and holds everything in the trust's own Microsoft 365. For governance knowledge and training, no: GovernorHub's connection to The Key's knowledge bank and on-demand training is its real strength, and EstateProof offers nothing comparable.
What does GovernorHub do that EstateProof doesn't?

Board documents export from GovernorHub and load into your own SharePoint libraries, where they'll live from then on, under your retention rules. Committees, terminology and membership are configured to your scheme of delegation at setup, and external members join as secure Microsoft guests. Because the papers land in your tenant, it's the last migration of its kind.
