Free, familiar, and legally defensible if the regime behind them is disciplined. A small school with one well-organised owner and low evidence volumes can make this work, and we'd rather say so than pretend otherwise. Do schools have to buy software for the DfE's estate standards?
No: the standards require outcomes and records, not tools, and the annual self-assessment returns from autumn 2026 can be completed from any well-kept records. What software changes is whether those records exist as a by-product of daily work or as an annual assembly job.
